What the typing test measures

Frequently asked questions

How is WPM calculated?

WPM = (correctly typed characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed. One "word" is defined as five characters, so scores are comparable across different texts. Only correct characters count.

How is accuracy calculated?

Accuracy = correct characters ÷ total keystrokes × 100. Corrected mistakes still count as keystrokes, so fixing errors keeps speed but lowers accuracy.

What is the difference between WPM and CPM?

CPM is characters per minute, the same measurement without dividing by five. WPM = CPM ÷ 5. Both are shown in your results.

Which test modes are available?

Standard, Hardcore, Blind, Code, Numbers and Custom text. The 1 minute and 5 minute timed tests use the same test with a time limit.
